The assailant is in a mental hospital
Index.hu spoke to Dr. Gábor Makai, a clinical psychologist, about what awaits an attacker who is locked up in a mental hospital for thirty days. As previously reported, a man attacked several police officers with a knife, one of whom died of his injuries.
The man was caught by the police and the Central District Court of Buda (BKKB) ordered the arrest of the 35-year-old cop killer for one month, and the place of detention was the Institute for Judicial Observation and Mental Health (IMEI), based on a medical opinion.
According to Dr. Gábor Makai, a clinical psychologist, the primary goal is to examine and explore the person’s psychological and mental state. “The examinations will certainly be carried out by experts, a forensic psychiatrist and a forensic psychologist. On the basis of these, a personality profile of the perpetrator will be drawn up, the personality structure of the person will be mapped. Their diagnosis and expert opinions will determine whether the cop killer was of sound mind when he committed the crime,” says Makai.
The man is suspected of having some kind of abnormal mental condition. This is thought to be due to the man’s uncontrolled aggression, extreme behaviour.
Rorschach test
During the thirty days, there will certainly be a Rorschach test. It is a complex psychological, diagnostic tool that can be used to explore the personality structure of both healthy people and people with psychological problems.
“As part of the psychodiagnostic examination, the offender will be shown ten boards. His responses to the inkblots will be evaluated. The boards will show symmetrical inkblots (black and white, colour) and the subject will report these blots during the test. This will help to draw up the personality profile, the expert opinion,” said Makai. He added the test is not foolproof, there is no right or wrong answer.
